Their Journey To America
Margaret Canty was born on June 26th, 1861 in Syracuse New York to parents Owen Canty and Ellen Stanton. Her family moved to Winsonsin, finally settling in Lawler, Iowa, where it is believed that Margaret met and married a man named Patrick Sheridan. Together they had seven children of their own, four girls named Margaret, Irene, Mabel, and Glenne, and three boys named Eugene Sylvester, John Francis, and Aurtur Edward. Their youngest son, Arthur Edward, became one of Iowa's most prominent lawyers. The possibility that General Sheridan of the Union Army (during the Civil War) may be related is still being investigated.
